Getting Started
This section covers everything you need to get started with ActiveState projects, from installing the State Tool to creating and activating your first project.
What is a project?
The ActiveState Platform hosts your custom runtimes. Each project defines the components needed to build a secure runtime, tracks its history, and includes instructions on how to deploy your runtime. You can create projects for personal use, share them with your organization, or make them public.
Available Platform features vary by subscription tier.
Your project contains only the dependencies of your runtime and does not include any first-party code. Sharing your runtime with contributors or others in your organization will not share any code you have written. It will only share the artifacts included in the runtime (packages, dependencies, patches, bundles, etc.).
📄️ Install the State Tool
You can install the State Tool command line interface (CLI) on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
📄️ Create Your First Project
Producing a reliable, customized project is a core function of the ActiveState Platform. This guide shows you how to create projects that include only the languages and artifacts (packages, bundles, patches, etc.) you need for the specific operating system(s) you are working on.
📄️ First Steps - Deploy and Use Your Project
After creating your project and installing the State Tool, you can get started using your project locally. This guide covers the essential first steps to deploy and work with your ActiveState project.
📄️ Authentication
To access private projects and sync your local State Tool with your ActiveState Platform account, you need to authenticate your State Tool installation.
